ISRAEL AND THE ARABS
(Rec. 7 p.m.) LONDON, May IL Brief reference to the dispute between Israel and the Arab States was made by Sir Winston Churchill in tus speech on foreign affairs. He spoke of the need to see that the Jews got fair play, and that the pledges made to them by successive British Governments were fulfilled. It was unfortunate that no peace had been made between Israel and the Arab countries, be said, and added that nothing that Britain might do in the supply of aircraft to that part of the world would be allowed to place Israel at a disadvantage. He expressed the hope that peace could be made with mutual advantage to both sides. Saying that he hoped that the Arab States might come into closer association with the Western Allies, Sir Winston Churchill said that an important factor in the Middle East was the State of Israel. When the work Israel had done in reclaiming the desert to provide a home for more than 500,000 refugees hunted from Europe was considered, ha felt it was Britain’s duty to see that Israel had a fair deal
