POPE CALLS FOR PEACE TALKS
(Rec. 1.30 am.) LONDON, May 12. Reuter’s correspondent at the Vatican City says that Pope Pius XII today called on the world Powers to initiate frank and loyal discussion as the first indispensable condition for world peace. “For a moment we can express the hope—if we may use that word—that we may seek a frank, loyal discussion to take place between the Powers. “Although this would not yet mean that peace is assured it is at least a first and indispensable condition to peace and if that is lacking there is no knowing how to take any step towards its attainment” .
