SURREY AGAIN COLLAPSES

Innings Win To Australia

LONDON, May 11. Australia won its third victory in the fourth match of the tour today when Surrey, last year’s champion county, collapsed in the second innings. They were all out for 122, Australia winning by an innings and 76 runs - > Archer was mainly responsible for Surrey’s batting collapse. He bowled unchanged for 1 hour 37 minutes before lunch and took five for 22. He finished with five for 35 off 16 overs. In the first innings- he took six for 26. He bowled his in-swinger intelligently and gained a lot of lift off the pitch. He attacked the batsmen throughout. His control of length and direction was admirable and he worked up his fastest pace of the tour. Among Archer’s victims was the test hope, Peter May, who, after a painful innings for one run in 34 minutes, was bowled by the Australian, who deceived him with a change of pace and flight. The Surrey opening batsman. David Fletcher, alone defied the bowling. He was uncomfortable early against Lindwall and Archer, but he hung on courageously and was the side's last man out. The Surrey batsmen again appeared terrified by Australia’s attacking field. They hesitated before they played any strokes, and edged the ball to the waiting ring of fieldsmen behind the wicket. Lindwall’s performance in this match was a good one. He bowled for long periods and began Surrey’s collapse in each innings.
