UNION FEDERALISTS’ POLICY
(Rec. 7 pm.) CAPE TOWN, May 10. The formation of the Union Federal Party was announced today, with its main ata to “create in South Africa opportunities for people of aU races to enjoy the fullness of life and liberty under the protection of the Ibw.*’ It is the second new party to emerge in the union within 24 hours. Yesterday the South African Liberal Party wm formed, its sponsors declaring that itwould stand for political equality of opportunity, irrespective of race, colour, or creed. The Union Federal Party statement was signed by 22 sponsors, most of them members of the Torch mando. It stated that the party would work to “reshape the present quasiunitary system to one of Federal union by the redistribution of powers from central to provincial governments, giving a far “pasure of autonomy to the especially in matters which directly concern the life of the citizen. Condemning both major in the Union for appealing to racial nrpiudice the statement said that tne party would serve to rally the people, who were at present disheartened. It declared that the new movement wouW uphold the right Of the people of any province to jemain part of the Commonwealth under the Crown.
