RUGBY FOOTBALL
INTERPRETATIONS OF LAWS RULINGS OF N.Z. UNION (New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, May 11. Commonsense and the spirit of the game should be the governing factors In interpretations of the laws of Rugby. This view was expressed by executive members of the New Zealand Rugby Union today, when they gave interpretations on two laws. Both related to offside play, and had particular relation to the line-out and the 10-yard rule. The effect of the interpretations is that a player is not offside in a line-out unless he has both feet in front of the line formed at right angles to the touch-line, and that a player moving back to place himself onside would be offside if he interfered with the play inside the 10-yard area. Because members felt that charges for big fixtures should measure up to pre-sent-day costs, it was agreed to recommend to the council of the union that the admission charges for the North-South match at Wellington on .September 15 should be 10s (grandstand) and 3s 6d (ground). Mr L. V. Carmine and Brigadier J. R. Page favoured a lower scales of increases. For All Black trial matches it was agreed to ascertain from unions their scale of charges for representative games before making a decision
