ACCESS TO SKI GROUNDS
ROAD TO “THE BLUFFS” SUGGESTED
The construction of a car road from the main highway to “The Bluffs,” in the Blimit basin, to give access to the public to scenic attractions and snow sports in the area, was suggested in a letter from the Christchurch Ski Club to the Arthur’s Pass National Park Board. The letter was discussed at the board’s annual meeting yesterday. An alternative suggestion was that a horse track should be made the entire way up to the Temple Basin Hut as an easy means of transporting fuel and other material for the ski tow there.
This year eight drums of oil fuel, weighing one and a half tons, as well as other supplies would have to be carried, up to the ski tow, said the letter, and the club suggested that the scheme for putting in a pack track should be undertaken by the board. The board agreed to have a reconnaissance made by an engineer for details about the grade of the area, suitable width, cost of construction and some idea of the annual maintenance of an access road. The information will be reported back to the board. A grant of £lO will be made to the Christchurch Ski Club by the board in recognition of its work in providing ski tows and patrolling them in the board's area.
