ALAN LOVEDAY
VIOLINIST ARRIVES FOR N.Z. TOUR (Neto Zealand Press Asxociation) AUCKLAND, May 10. Mr Alan Loveday, the New Zealand violinist, returned to the Dominion today after a long absence. He arrvied at Whenuapai with his wife by B.C.P.A. airliner, and will go to Wellington tomorrow. Mr Loveday said he would spent 10J weeks in New Zealand and 8J weeks in Australia. He hoped to broadcast in America on his way to England. An engagement that he looks forward to on his return is in the Royal concert to be given to the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh before they begin their tour of New Zealand and Australia.
Mr Loveday’s first New Zealand appearance on his present tour will be in Christchurch with the National Orchestra on May 21. He has played under the orchestra’s conductor, Mr Warwick Braithwaite, in Britain. He will give five performances with the orchestra, and 27 recitals. His wife, formerly. Miss Ruth Stanfield, is his accompanist and associate artist. Born in Palmerston North, Mr Loveday began playing the violin at the age of three years. He went to London in 1939 to further his studies. His first important public appearance was in 1946.
