JUNIOR NATIONAL PARTY
BIGGER MEMBERSHIP REPORTED A campaign launched last year had increased membership of the Canterbury division of the Junior National Party by 20 per cent., said the retiring chairman (Mr Gordon Mcßeath) to delegates attending the annual rally of the division held at the week-end. Mr Mcßeath said that it was expected that more progress would be made. Delegates were present from Oamaru, Timaru, Temuka, and Hawarden, and from local branches of the division. The member of Parliament for Hurunui (Mr W. H. Gillespie) was the main speaker at the rally.. He addressed delegates on citizenship and the aims of the National Party as to its junior members. A dance and a picnic were also held, and films were shown and trophies were presented for debating and impromptu speaking. The following officers were elected: divisional chairman. Mr D. L. Round (Rangiora); rural deputy-chairman, Mr S. A. Tympany (Timaru): urban deputy-chairman, Mr J. C. EUey (Selwyn).
