INVERCARGILL, May 10. The second day of the Southland Racing Club’s autumn meeting was held on Saturday. The weather was fine and the track, although slower than on the first day, provided excellent winter going. The totalisator turnover on Saturday was £42,718 10s, £2364 10s less than last year’s second-day turnover. For the two days, the total was £86,407 10s, £13,080 less than last year. OTAKI-MAORI MEETING

THE WAKE WINS MAIN RACE (New Zealand Press Association) OTAKI, May 10. The Wake was given a mixed reception on his return to scale after winning the Ta Timi Kara Handicap, the feature event and first leg of the double, at the OtakiMaori Racing Club's winter meeting yesterday. 1716 Wake failed badly at Woodville a week ago, but he finished solidly yesterday to beat the favourites, Reigning King and Deb. Driving rain throughout the day made conditions unpleasant, and favourites fared poorly on the heavy track. The totslisator handled £40,567 105—£20,835 10s less than the amount handled on the course last year. Doubles investments totalled £27,533.

The winning double, The Wake-Berne, paid ’£l37 Is 6d for £l.

Radiate was promoted to fourth in the Waikanae Handicap No. 1, when V. J. Sellars, rider of Ruillant, which finished fourth, failed to weigh in. R. B. Shield, rider of the winner, Jimmy Woodser, was severely reprimanded for not riding his mount out in the Rangiruru Steeples.
