RAIL-CAR HELD UP
SUP ON WEST COAST LINE ENGINE DERAILED AT SLOVENS CREEK An engine and four waggons of a goods train bound for Arthur’s Pass were derailed by a slip at Slovens creek—between Avoca and Staircase—about 7.30 p.m. yesterday. The Grey-mouth-Christchurch rail-car was held up at Cass, and the passengers were transported by bus to Christchurch. Within three hours of the derailment the engine and waggons were P, ut back on to the lines and the slip cleared by Railways Department employees. When it was apparent that the work would take some time to complete, four buses of the Railways Road Services were sent to Cass to Ptck up passengers from the rail-car. The first bus contained passengers travelling south by the 11.2 p.m. Christchurch-Invercargill express The express was held at Christchurch for an hour and then sent on to Rolleston to await the first bus, which was expected to reach there about 12.45 pm Late last evening it was not expectea that the last bus would arrive m Christchurch until about 3 a.m. today. It was expected that the Christ-church-Greymouth rail-car would this morning at the usual time of 2.20 a«m«
