It is sailed by the writer, Eric Hiscock, with the help of Mrs Hiscock. They intend to circumnavigate the globe, taking about three years on the voyage and travelling some 30,000 miles. Mr Hiscock is searching for material for his forthcoming book, “Voyaging Under Sail.” The Wanderer 111 is a sloop-rigged cruising yacht, w’ith a registered tonnage of four tons and was built specially for the voyage at a cost of £3OOO. Since leaving England in July, 1952, calls have been made at France, Spain, Portugal, the Canary Islands, the West Indies, the Panama Canal Zone, and the Marquesas Islands. After leaving the Canary Islands a 2700-mile voyage was made to Barbados, and this was followed by a leisurely two-month cruise through the West Indies. From Balboa, in the Canal Zone, the 4000-mile voyage to the Marquesas Islands took 36 days, during which time nothing was sighted until a landfall was made at Nukuhiva Island, m the Marquesas. After a short stay m Tahiti, Mr and Mrs Hiscock intend to call at several Pacific islands on the way to New Zealand, where they expect to arrive m September. During their stay m New Zealand they intend doing as much sightseeing as possible. Afterwards calls will be made at Australia, Indonesia, Singapore, and other Eastern countries. They will return to England via the Cape of Good Hope.
