Oamaru Stone May be Exported Should negotiations now in progress prove fruitful, Oamaru limestone, which is well-known for its building qualities, particularly in the South Island, will become a dollar earner for the Dominion. Inquiries have been received in recent years for this building material from as far afield as Vancouver and negotiations are now proceeding for the supply of about 1500 tons of Oamaru stone for building purposes each year. The latest project is for the shipping of this material to Canada for use in the building of Kitimat, the project of the Aluminium Company of Canada in British Columbia, where plans are being based on the eventual development of a city of 50,000 population. Early in the history of Oamaru, the stone was shipped from Omaru and was used in several Canadian buildings.—
