OBITUARY
LT.-COL. H. M. FOSTER
(New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND,’ April 8. Lieutenant-Colonel Henry Morton Foster, 0.8. E., a -former member ot the New Zealand Staff Corps, died suddenly near his home at Remuera this afternoon. Colonel Foster served overseas with the Canterbury Regiment in the First World War. He left New Zealand with the Main Body draft, and served > on the staff at Sling Camp for some time after the armistice. He joined the Staff Corps on his return home. During the Second World War he held a number of appointments, including a long period of duty at Whangarei and a term as district commandant of the Central Military District. He was the Auckland area commander from 1943 until he retired from this post in 1946. Colonel Foster was appointed Assistant - Quartermaster - General, Northern Military District shortly afterwards. The following year he joined the J Force in Japan as commander of the Tokyo sub-area. After a period of duty there he returned to New Zealand. He is survived, by his wife and a daughter.
