APIARY DAMAGED BY FIRE

LOSS PUT AT £2OOO (New Zealand Press Association) WHANGAREI. March 24. Fire caused about £2OOO worth of damage at Mr H. R. Holdaway’s apiary on the old Parua Bay road, .near Whangarei, before it was quelled by the Whangarei Fire Brigade in a fivehour battle last night. The brigade used its new radio-telephones at the fire for the first time. *A feature of the blaze was that a creek used as a water supply kept running dry* hampering the brigade and prolonging the operations. Some buildings on the property were saved, but the honey shed was destroyed. In it were' four tons of honey, a large quantity of beeswax, and electrical and other equipment. The other shed, a fence, and some tfees and timber, were damaged slightly. Insurance on the buildings and contents was more than £l2OO.
