DEATH AFTER DRINK OF KEROSENE ATTEMPT TO SAVE BOY’S LIFE (New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, March 10. A two-year-old boy who had drunk from a bottle of kerosene at Mount Maunganui died when he was being flown from Tauranga for treatment at Auckland today. He was Alan Barrett, son of Mr and Mrs R. G. Barrett, of Te Aroha. The child was rushed to the Tapranga Hospital, but when his condition had not improved, it was decided to take him to hospital in Auckland by ambulance plane. The aircraft left Tauranga at 11 a.m., but the child died 20 minutes later, and the plane turned back. BOY’S BODY FOUND IN RIVER DISAPPEARANCE LAST WEEK (New Zealand Press Association) MASTERTON, March 10. The body of Russell Haeata, aged seven. Who had been missing since Tuesday afternoon of last week, was recovered from the Ruamahanga river at Te Ore Ore, this afternoon. The body was found in a deep hole above the Raumahanga bridge by a party of employees of the Masterton County Council. The lad had been playing with other boys on the bank of the river above the Te Ore Ore bridge, and when the party was ready to go home at 5 p.m. on March 3 it was found that Haeata was absent. LORRY AND TRAIN COLLIDE FARMER KILLED ON CROSSING (New Zealand Press Association) WANGANUI, March 10. A man was killed when the truck he was driving collided with a trooptrain at the Makirikiri road crossing between Crofton and Cliff road early this afternoon. He was Ronald Edmund Jeremiah Hurley, aged 33, a farmer, of Hunterville. The truck, which was loaded with wheat, was being driven towards Marton. The train had just left Marton Junction, and was travelling to Palmerston North. No-one in the train was injured, but the springs of two carriages were damaged, and the carriages had to be removed at Greatford. TIMARU CYCLIST INJURED (From Our Own Reporter) TIMARU. March 10. Patricia Caswell, aged 18. of 12 Barnard street, Timaru, suffered lacerations to the head and concussion when the bicycle she was riding was involved in a collision with a car at the intersection of Stafford and King streets soon after midday today. The driver of the car was Adam Farquharson Wilkie, of 76 Otipua road, Timaru. She was admitted to the Timaru Public Hospital. Her condition last evening was reported to be satisfactory.
