ATOMIC ENERGY IN INDUSTRY

RESEARCH TO BEGIN IN AUSTRALIA (Rec. 7.30 p.m.) CANBERRA, Feb. 20. The Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation is advertising for scientists and engineers “for research connected with the development of atomic energy as a source of industrial power." In the Commonwealth Gazette the organisation notifies vacancies for this purpose for chemical and mechanical engineers. metallurgists, physicists, theoretical physicists, and chemists. The Minister for Supply (Mr Howard Beale) said that appointments would be made in anticipation of a programme of atomic research and development to be carried out by the Australian Atomic Energy Commission. Mr Beale will introduce legislation into the House of Representatives next month to give the commission power to control the whole range of atomic development in Australia.
