SUB ASSOCIATION SHIELD MATCH x CHRISTCHURCH BEATS NORTH CANTERBURY Christchurch Suburban beat North Canterbury by 109 runs in a sub-associa-tflbn cricket match for the Sub-Associa-tion Shield, which concluded at Hagley oval yesterday afternoon. Suburban scored 169 in its first innings, and 177 in the second innings. North Canterbury was dismissed for 143 in the first innings and required 203 runs to win> but was dismissed for 94 runs in the second innings. Suburban will now play Malvern in the final match for the shield. Batting for Suburban in the second innings, N. Gallagher compiled a useful 64, and was assisted in two partnerships by D. Stokes (28) and J. D. Smith (20). B. Kinley, opening batsman for North Canterbury, started well, but he received little assistance from the other batsmen, with the exception of I. Sail, who scored 21. R. MitcheH Wok five wickets for 23 runs- for Suburban in North Canterbury’s second innings, and D. Beere took four for 53. D. Kinley bowled well for North Canterbury in Suburban's second Innings, and took five wickets for 33 runs. During play on Wednesday N. WAIRARAPA PLAYS MARLBOROUGH (New Zealand Press Association) BLENHEIM, February 19. Sent in to bat on a soft wicket, Wairarapa was out fpr 129 in a Hawke Cup elimination match started at Blenheim today. Six wickets fell for 48 against the bowling of G. F. Cresswell and R. Neal, but a seventh-wicket stand by the Wairarapa captain, Foote, and a young allround, Percy, added 56 in 35 minutes. An appeal against the light ended play an hour prematurely, after Marlborough had batted 45 minutes for 14 runs. Scores:—Wairarapa 129 (Percy 52 Foote 33 not out; Cresswell three for 35, R. Neal two for 21, A. J. Neale two for 23, T. Neale two for 18); Marlborough, 14 for no wickets.
