The weather forecast for Canterbury, issued at 9 p.m. by the Meteorological Office, Wellington, and dealing with the 27 hours following the time of issue, is:— Situation: an active low-pressure trough lies east of the South Island and across the North Island, and an anti-cyclone covering the west and south Tasman Sea is advancing eastwards. Forecast: strong southerly winds and rain at first, but winds tending to moderate south-westerlies and weather improving during the day, especially in inland areas; temperatures cool. Outlook for Friday: fair. WEST COAST The forecast for the West Coast of the South Island is:— Moderate south-west to west winds; weather mainly fair at first, but showers developing again from Hokitika southwards during the afternoon. Outlook for Friday: fair. CHRISTCHURCH WEATHER The weather in Christchurch yesterday was overcast, with a light north-east wind. The maximum . temperature was 62.7 degrees. At midnight, the sky was overcast after jain, and there was a moderate wind from the south-west. The temperature was 52.3 degrees.
