FOOTPATHS IN STYX

Sir,—l do not wonder at "Visitor to Styx” being amazed at the condition of the footpaths. Until the hay was cut on the foolpaths (it was waisthigh) all pedestrians, young and old, even mothers with prams, had to walk on the road—and they still have to. We read and hear about safety on the roads, and, believe me, the North road is a busy one. I would like to know who is responsible for cutting the unsightly gorse fences, which I understand have to be cut oncs a year.— Yours, etc., WAIMAIRI, WAKE UP. Styx, February 16, 1953.
