RECEPTION FOR MR TRUMAN
WASHINGTON, January 20. Mr Truman went from the inauguration ceremony of his successor today to a wijdly enthusiastic reception for Mr Truman, the private citizen. The demonstration occurred as he drove up to the home of Mr Dean Acheson, the outgoing Secretary of State. More than 300 of Mr Acheson’s friends and neighbours gathered in the streets to welcome Mr Truman. Responding to the crowd, who demanded “We want Truman,” the 68-year-old former President spoke with a broad smile on his face: “I appreciate this more than any enthusiastic, meeting I ever had as President or as Vice-President, or as a Senator. This is the greatest demonstration any man could nave. I am just Mr Truman, a private citizen.” Mr Acheson also thanked the crowd for “greeting lots of old has-beens.”,
