DIAMOND WEDDING
MR AND MRS DONALD MACDONALD
A very happy gathering arranged by members of their family as a surprise for their parents was held to celebrate, the diamond wedding anniversary of Mr and Mrs Donald Macdonald, who now live in Straven street. Riccarton. Mrs Macdonald was formerly Miss Agnes Margaret Glanville. and her marriage to Mr Macdonald was celebrated at the Presbyterian Church, Woodbury. Geraldine, by the Rev. Mr Dickson, on January 9, 1893. Mr Macdonald is a retired farmer, who farmed mostly in Canterbury and Marlborough. In his younger days he was an elder of the Presbyterian Church and served on school committees and was always keenly interested in the Agricultural and Pastoral Association. Mr and Mrs Macdonald are both keen gardeners. They had 10 children, and three of the sons served in the 1914-18 war, during which the eldest, Mr Allan Macdonald, was killed in an aircraft accident in England. At the diamond wedding reception held at the home of one of the sons, Mr Bruce Macdonald, Bassett’s road, Burwood, the honoured guests were piped from the house to the marquee, Where a buffet tea was served, by Mr Farquhar Macdonald, a nephew of Mr Macdonald. About 60 guests, mainly members of the family, with a few old friends, attended the party, during which many photographs were taken, and congratulatory cablegrams and telegrams, including messages from Queen Elizabeth IT. the GovernorGeneral (Sir Willoughby Norrie), and the Prime Minister (Mr Holland) were read.
Members of the family present were three daughters. Miss C. Macdonald, Mrs C. H. Rudd, and Mrs D. Crombie, and four sons, Messrs Ronald, Donald, Bruce, and Hector Macdonald. There are 10 grandchildren and three greatgrandchildren.
