Airport Runway Extensions
Over-runs of about 600 feet will be prepared on each runway at Whenuapai airport as soon as financial approval is granted in Wellington. The extensions will entail the taking down of fences, levelling, and, at one runway end, the buying of land. The Auckland office of the Ministry of Works, will do the job. The introduction of* the de Havilland Comet to the Pacifie.service has made the provision of over-runs necessary, •particularly for landing in bad weather “
