LOCAL BODY POLLS

POSSIBLE DATE IN OCTOBER CABINET CONSIDERATION TODAY (New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, January 19. New Zealand’s municipal election! are, it is believed, likely to be held on October 17, 1953. or on October 14* October 17 is a Saturday, and October 14 is a Wednesday. These are the dates understood to have been discussed by the Mayor of Auckland (Sir John Allum), with the Secretary of Internal Affairs (Mr A. G. Harper) during the latter’s visit to Auckland last week. The elections, which are held tnenmally, would not normally be held till November 21, but because the Queen will leave for New Zealand in December, it is considered certain that amending legislation will be passed by Parliament to advance the date. The Prime Minister (Mr Holland) told the political correspondent of the "New Zealand Herald” in Wellington tonight that the Cabinet would consider the question of the election date tomorrow.
