GLENELG HEALTH CAMP

MEETING OF COMMITTEE The 42 girls at present at the Glenelg children’s health camp, Murray Aynsley Hill, have bathed in the swimming pool at the camp nearly every day recently, and many of them have learned to swim, while others who at first were afraid to enter the pool, are now quite happy there. All are happy and well and sun-tanned. This was reported by the matron of the camp (Mrs E. Morrison) to the management committee at its monthly meeting last night, when the president (Mr George Burns) presided. Mrs Morrison said that 4801 b of jam had been made from fruit from Glenelg orchard and 153 jars of fruit had been preserved. A letter expressing appreciation for the kindness shown to her son while he -was at Glenelg, where he had greatly improved in health, was received from a mother at Riccarton.

A brochure setting out health camp routine and treatment was received from the Dominion Advisory Board of the Federation of Health Camps, which invited expressions of opinion on the booklet. It was decided that members should read the brochure and report on it at the next meeting. It was reported that an effort was being made to sell the remaining stock of 1952-53 health stamps before the end of next*week, when the campaign will close. Members of the stamp selling committee are staffing the booth at the Chief Post Office each day, and find that the stamps are still in demand.

“The best report we have received,” was the opinion of members of the follow-up report of children who had been at Glenelg more than a year ago. All were said to be well and to be maintaining the improvement they had made in camp. Donations and gifts were gratefully acknowledged from Mr W. S. MacGibbon. Mrs A. Stott, North Canterbury Provincial council of the licensed trade, Messrs A. S. Nicholls and Hill. Messrs J. Mercer and Sons, the Junior Chamber of Commerce, Mrs Rowland, Messrs Aulsebrook and Company, Mr and Mrs Ives, Mr and Mrs Sadler. Mr and Mrs O’Boyle, and Miss Olga Miles.
