The holding of a combined Maori and pakeha poll on the liquor question in the King Country will be opposed by the Presbyterian Church on the ground that such a poll would “override the Maoris’ votes and deny them their rights.” This decision was made by the General Assembly of the church in New Plymouth yesterday. The assembly decided to support the claim of Maori electors in the King Country to determine changes in the area’s licensing laws. —(P.A.)
