FINE ON BOOKMAKING CHARGE

(New Zealand Press Association) TIMARU, November 11.

Douglas Finlay Campbell, a Timaru barman, aged 33. pleaded guilty in the Magistrate’s Court today to a charge of carrying on the business of a bookmaker. He was fined £2O.

Prosecuting, Senior-Detective J. W. Hill said a complaint had been received about Campbell, and with a warrant obtained under the Gaming Act he had interviewed the accused. Campbell admitted taking a few bets and had £6 10s in bets in his pocket. Campbell said he had been challenged by persons who said they could not get to the Totalisator Agency Board, and he had “indulged a little.”
