OFFER TO BUY REFORMED

RACING

£lO,OOO REFUSED BY OWNER

(N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) (Rec. 11.15 p.m.) MELBOURNE, Nov. 11. The owner and trainer of the New Zealand racehorse Reiormed (Mr A. J.

Brown) - has refused an offer of £(NZ) 10,000 for the horse. Mr Brown said the offer was made on behalf of a Sydney syndicate. Reformed impressed Australian racegoers with his fast-finishing fourth in the Caulfield Cup, and again when he flew home to run third to Dalray and Welkin Sun in the Melbourne Cup. Two earlier offers of £7OOO on Caulfield Cup day and £9OOO a few days later, were refused by Mr Brown. “I have put a price on him, and I know what he is worth, particularly with the rich races coming up in New Zealand and Australia.” said Mr Brown. “There is the Auckland Cup on Boxing Day, worth £12,000, and I think he can win it, so it is simple to see why 1 knocked back £lO,OOO. “After that race comes the Wellington Cup in January, followed by the very rich long-distance events in Australia, the Australian Cup, the Sydney Cup, and the Brisbane Cup.

“While not sounding too optimistic, I feel he will win at least a couple of those events. I know that £lO,OOO is a lot, but I consider he is worth more than that, and I want the full amount. I have listened to all the offers, and if one of them comes Up to my figure I will sell.” / Mr Brown said he wanted to have another go at Dalray in the Wellington Cup. Today further negotiations for the sale of Reformed broke, down, because the price put on him by his owner was considered too high by persons interested. It is believed that Mr Brown asked £12,500 and the persons negotiating said they were no longer interested. Present plans are for Reformed to contest the Auckland Cup on Boxing Day, and possibly the Wellington Cup in January. Mr Brown said today that in all probability he will be back in Melbourne for the Australian Cup meeting in March, go on to Sydney for the cup meeting there at Easter, and later tackle some of the rich cup races in Queensland.
