"THE BARTERED BRIDE”

Sir,—l should like to take the opportunity of complimenting the newlyformed Christchurch Grand Opera Company on its current production. As a member of last evening’s audience. I thoroughly enjoyed this show from start to finish. The orchestra played very well, the costuming was attractive and spectacular, while the singing both of soloists and chorus was of a high order, particularly for a local presentation. There is no doubt that the audience enjoyed the dance routines, which were very entertaining, beautifully costumed, and well staged. This is, in short, all of a good show. Opera has been dead in New Zealand all too long. It is to be hoped that the Christchurch public will give this new venture all the support it deservedly merits.—Yours, etc., MUSIC LOVER. October 23, 1952.
