BLACK WEALTH AND ENTRANCING
Black Wealth, Entrancing, . Snuffbox. Danger Point, and Aegina did attractive trials at Riccarton yesterday in preparation for their racing during the weekend. AU the work was done on the trial grass, which was in splendid order after rain earlier in the week. Black Wealth, an acceptor for the North Canterbury Handicap at Rangiora on Monday, started, from the mile and sprinted his last seven furlongs in Imin 28 3-ssec. He was ridden by J. W. McDonald’ and was joined at the half-mile by Gloriann (L. Woodhouse), which reached the post half a length in front. The last half-mile was »un in 51sec. Entrancing (D. J. Thistoll) was two lengths Tilear of Turbulent (B. S. Finlayson) on completing seven furlongs in Imin 29sec, the last four in 51 4-ssec. Entrancing has been spelled since she last raced, and because of rain she missed a gaUop on Tuesday, so she may not be at her best for the Tinwald Handicap at Ashburton on Saturday. Snuffbox (G. Ridgway) was too good for Red Hand (T. Lyons) over six furlongs. Snuffbox, carrying a good weight, was two lengths clear at the finish, and he recorded Imin 17sec. The last four furlongs took 50 4-ssec.
Snuffbox is an acceptor for the open sprint at Rangiora on Monday. Dan (F. H. Skelton) appeared to be galloping better than his stablemate, Margaret Leigh (N. A. Dempsey), at the end of seven furlongs in Imin 30 l-ssec, the last four in 51 3-ssec.
Detective (R. McSeveney) beat Argonaut (B. S. Finlayson) by three lengths over six furlongs, and recorded Imin 18 2- The last half-mile took 51 4-ssec. Ashburton Candidate Sawdust (D. M. Kerr) gave Haughty Chief (F. H. Skelton) a start from the half-mile and finished on terms in 49sec —a smart effort. Sawdust is in the two-year-old race at Ashburton. Strato (R. Forward) could have beaten Jacksons (T. J. Smith) by more than a neck over six furlongs. The distance was covered in the smart time of Imin 18sec, and the last four furlongs in 51sec. Prince Crusader (G. Ridgway) was a length clear of Gigli’s Son (T. Lyons) after running seven furlongs in Imin 31 3- the last four in 54sec. Bowling Green (R. McSeveny) and Aquelio (F. H. Skelton) were on terms at the end of a mile in Imin 46sec, the last half in 52 4-ssec. Princess Finis (L. V. French), winner of two races at Westport, sprinted home from the half-mile in 51sec. Magical (B. S. Finlayson) and Make Haste (M. J. Wadley) were on terms after running six furlongs in Imin 18 3-ssec, the last four in 53 2-ssec. Sun Goddess (T. Lyons) and Noble Jim (R. Forward) showed speed in running from the mile post to the three frulongs in Imin 2 3-ssec. The first four furlongs took 49 l-ssec. Hermes (N. Dempsey) was three lengths clear of Sibelius (B. Lake) after running half a mile in 50 l-ssec. Sibelius is a four-year-old brother to the New Zealand Derby winner, Liebestraum. Rex Dollar (B. Gordon) and Edendale (R. McSeveny) sprinted the last four of six furlongs in 51 3-ssec. Sovereign Salute (G. A. Hillis) and Devalue (D. M. Kerr) followed in 53 3-ssec. Worked Keenly Tarawoingee (L. French) worked very keenly over six furlongs and recorded Imin 18 l-ssec. The time for the last halfmile was 51 l-ssec. Orontes (R. McSeveny) and Roi du Bdis (B. Gordon) were on terms a length in front of Valley Gold (M. J. Wadley) after running a mile in Imin 45 4-ssec. The last half-mile took 52 l-ssec. Mightgo (D. M. Kerr) and Lovelock (T. Lyons) completed their work by sprinting half a mile in 52 3-ssec. Ngapunawai (R. Forward) streaked right away from Vitalogy (L. Woodhouse) in their run over a mile, and finished six lengths clear after his saddle had slipped in the straight. Ngapunawai recorded Imin 45 l-ssec, and ran the last half-mile in 52 4-ssec. Jesse James (R. McMinn) sprinted home from the half-mile in 59 l-ssec, and Solstice (D. M. Kerr) followed in 52sec. Absence (B. Hillis) and Rebel Flight (F. H. Skelton) sprinted a little more than five furlongs and a half, and they recorded 51sec for the last four. They finished on terms. Instinctive (D. Tallott) broke away from the seven furlongs two lengths In front of Gone Away (R. McSeveny), and he was still galloping easily at the finish with a half-length lead. The time for the distance was Imin 30 4-ssec, and the last half-mile took 53sec. Aegina (F. H. Skelton) did a smart trial for the sprint at Rangiora when she sped over half a mile in 47 4-ssec. She was running into' a strong breeze in the straight, so there was considerable merit in her effort. Adversary (B. S. Finlayson) and Belle Nuit (R. McSeveny) completed seven furlongs on terms in Imin 33 4-ssec. They did not have much pace on for the first furlong, and ran the last six furlongs in Imin 19 4-ssec, and the last four in 52 3-ssec. Danger Point Fit Danger Point (T. J. Smith) was galloping comfortably alongside Trinidad (G. A. Hillis) on completing a mite in Imin 44 3-ssec, after dashing over the first half in 51 l-ssec. Trinidad was kicked up over the last furlong, to stay alongside his stable-mate. Danger Point showed that he will be a fit candidate for the Rangiora Handicap on Monday. Goldwatna (N. Dempsey) beat Prince Colorado (J. W. McDonald) by half a length in their sprint from the half mile, and recorded 52 2-ssec. Pukka Sahib (J. T. Anderson) was galloping easily a length in front of Argive (I. McClure) at the end of six furlongs in Imin 18 4-ssec, the last four in 53 2-ssec. Ulster Queen (F. H. Skelton) sprinted home from the half mile in 49 2-ssec. Weewyn (R. McSeveny) took the honours in her six-furlong gallop with Miss Chase (B. Hillis) and Ambergris (B. Smith). Weewyn gave the other two a start and finished alongside Miss Chase, three lengths clear of Ambergris. The six furlongs took Imin 18 2-ssec, and the last four 51 l-ssec. Ngahuia (B. Hillis) and Port Finis (B. Smith) recorded 50 4-ssec for their half mile. They were followed over the same ground by Bon Soir (F. H. Skelton), Overboard (B. S. Finlayson), and Merry Medley (R. McSeveny), which finished in that order and recorded 49 2-ssec. Bon Soir was kicked up to beat Overboard, which was galloping comfortably at the finish.
