SURVEY OF MEAT PRICES

MINISTER REPORTS ON PROGRESS ACCOUNTS OF 80 BUTCHERS TO BE EXAMINED (New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON. October 23. “The survey being made into the retail meat trade by the Price Control Division of the Department of Industries and Commerce will be based on the accounts of 80 selected butchers throughout New Zealand.” said the Minister of Industries and Commerce (Mr J. T. Watts) today. The Minister said the 80 butchers had been selected with the view of giving a fair indication of the trends and conditions throughout the retail meat trade. The Price Control Division agreed some weeks ago with the Master Butchers’ Federation on the panel of 80 butchers on which to base the survey. The federation was co-operating with the division in obtaining details of the accounts of the selected panel, and many had already been received, continued Mr Watts, expressing appreciation pf the response. The Minister said there was no indication yet as to the likely date by which the survey of trends and prices in the meat trade would be completed.
