PARLIAMENTARY DAY

(From Our Parliamentary Reporter) WELLINGTON, October 23. With end-of-session fervour, the House of Representatives today passed all the 28 bills remaining on the order paper. They included the Government Railways Amendment Bill, which provides for a commission to control the railways. The Opposition again made a protest against the late introduction of such an important measure, but did not seriously oppose the provisions of the bill. All that remains for the House tomorrow is consideration of the Supplementary Estimates and an Appropriation Bill. Then it must await Royal assent to the bills passed today. The. House adjourned at 11.58 p.m. today, and will resume at 9.30 a.m. tomorrow.

IRRIGATION SCHEMES IN CANTERBURY ADDITIONAL FUNDS TO BE GRANTED (From Our Parliamentary Reporter) WELLINGTON, October 23. An additional sum of £35,000 has been provided for the Mayfields-Hinds irrigation scheme in the Supplementary Estimates for the Public Works Account. The original vote was £20,000. Under the Ministry of Works vote, a further sum of £8425 has been provided for the maintenance of Canter-' bury irrigation schemes. The original vote on that account was £43,350.
