AMPOL GOLF TOURNEY
VON NIDA LEADS (Rec. 11 p.m.) SYDNEY. October » The Australian champion, Normas von Nida, playing in atrocious conditions, scored a brilliant one under par 71 in the second round of the Ampol golf tournament at the Lakes course today to take the lead. Two of the four visiting Americans protested against playing in the wind and rain. The match committee deferred starting times for 35 minutes, but ruled that the tournament should go on. Lloyd Mangrum and Jimmy Demaret wanted to stay off the waterlogged course today and play 36 holes on Saturday—the final day. Yesterday’s leader. Ed Oliver, crashed today, taking 79—12 strokes more than his first round. Leading scores were: von Nida. 72. 71—143; Oliver, 67. 79—146; Peter Thomson. 76. 70—146: Demaret. 72, 77 —149; P. Heard. 77. 72—149; Mangrum 74. 76—150; C. Degroot. 75. 75—150; K. Pix. 75. 75—150: K. Nagle, 73, 77—150; O. Pickworth. 74, 77—151; S. Richardson, 78. 73—151; D. Cullen, 76. 76 152; J.
