URANIUM FROM AUSTRALIA

AGREEMENT FOR SALE TO U.S.

(Rec. 11 p.m.) CANBERRA, Oct 22. The Prime Minister of Australia (Mr Menries) said today that a uranium deal between the Australian and United States Governments was about to be completed, and an agreement should be signed in the very near future. Mr Menzies refused to discuss the price Australia would receive, but the Canberra correspondent of the Sydney “Sun” said it had been learned authoritatively that Australia would receive “a good price” under the agreement. The agreement would also provide that the United States should replace uranium supplies exported for military purposes, if or when needed for Australian industrial use, the correspondent said. The agreement was said to have been framed to ensure that Australia would have enough uranium available at the right time for her atomic power projects and for military purposes.
