SALEYARDS AT RANGIORA
RETENTION OF LIVESTOCK SALES SOUGHT The decision of the Rengiora Saleyards Company to discontinue tin weekly sale of livestock because th* Health Department had required the improvement of the yards brought i deputation of businessmen to the Rangiora Borough Council at lb monthly meeting last evening. Mr W. K. Nicholson said it wouM be a retrograde step to allow the sale to be discontinued. It was not » much the amount of business done i: the sale, he said, as the fact the: people were used to meeting in Rangiora on sale days. He hoped that the council would do all it could to indues the Health Department to modify lb demands. “I am whole-heartedly behind th* deputation in its request," said the Mayor (Mr C. W. Tyler). He *flte> that Rangiora had always been & ket town and a place where farmer* were used to meeting stock agents i»a others and getting business done to i very short time. He had heard peepte say that if the sale were stopped W 9 would go through to Christchurch to do their business. That would be bad for Rangiora. The council decided to write to thj saleyards compa iy asking it to med representatives of the business com* munity and the council to discuss ths matter.
