MAINTENANCE OF SCHOOLS

EDUCATION BOARDS TO MEET MINISTER

(New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, October 22. The New Zealand Education Boards’ Association today decided to set up a committee consisting of board secretaries to discuss with the Minister of Education (Mr R. M. Algie) the question of maintenance grants to boards. A Wellington remit to the conference requested an increase in the grant of Is 2d a square foot of classroom space to 2s 6d. This and other remits will be discussed by the special committee, which will prepare data before meeting the Minister, probably next month. The conference rejected a Wellington remit urging a limit on the number of prefabricated rooms to be erected for schools.
