CATHEDRAL SQUARE GARDEN PLOTS

REDESIGNING SUGGESTED TO COUNCIL

It was decided at a meeting of the committee of the Christchurch BeautiSing Association to suggest to the City ouncil that when the tram tracks through Cathedral square are removed, a new lay-out of garden plots should be devised. The aim of the lay-out would be to prevent the passage of vehicular traffic between the Cathedral and the Godley statue. It was decided to ask the council to “discipline” advertising on buildings near the Cathedral. The following were appointed to the garden competition committee: Messrs W. R. Cooper (convener), G. A. JHart and H. W. Tillman, and Mrs McConnell.
