IMPORTERS’ BUREAU SEES CRISIS PLEA FOR EASING OF RESTRICTIONS (New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, October 8. The possibility of the United States imposing ah increased duty on imported Wool is causing concern in Auckland, according to a statement issued .by the Bureau of Importers today. It adds that, On the other hand, restrictions on trade With the United States imposed by the New Zealand Government have frustrated American manufacturers. The bureau maintains that it is time for the NeW Zealand Government to realise that there should be reciprocity in international trade. It expresses the hope that “steps will be taken promptly to remedy the present crisis, which is likely to have devastating effects on New Zealand’s economy.” The bUfeati recommends farmers, through their federations, to urge the Government to negotiate with the United States to bring about a resumption of trade in manufactured goods. In return, it says, the United States may agree to import a greater quantity of New Zealand primary products.
