DEARER BACON AND HAM
HIGHER PRICES FROM TODAY
Wholesale prices for bacon and ham will be increased today, and retail prices will follow suit. Cooked ham will cost 6s 3d a pound in the shops and side and rolled bacon will cost 3s 4d apd 3s respectively, Retail price increases ar© 7sd a pound for cooked ham, 4d for side bacon, and 5d for rolled middles. Raw rashers of ham will cost 3s 10d a pound in future, and shoulder bacon will be 3s 3d. The wholesale price increases will be 4d a pound for side bacon, 5d for rolled middles, 7|d for cooked and pressed ham, 4Jd for flat hams, and pressed shoulder, 6d. The secretary of the New Zealand Bacon Curers’ Association (Mr J. B. Walton) said yesterday that .the new wholesale charges barely covered the increase in prices which came into force on August 4 for pigmeats for overseas. Increased wages and other costs were pot included.
When the new export schedule higher prices for pigmeats came into force fee price of fresh perk was increased. Prices of pork small goods were increased in Christchurch early last month. One leading delicatessen firm also increased the prices of bacon and ham.
