WOMEN’S DIVISION OF FEDERATED FARMERS

Stewarts Gully.—Mrs Scott reported on the provincial executive meeting, at the monthly meeting of the Stewarts Gully branch of the Women’s Division of Federated Farmers. Competition winners were Mesdames McLaughlan, Wrigglesworth and Davies. West Melton.—There was a good attendance of members at the monthly meeting of the West Melton branch of the Women’s Division of Federated Farmers held recently. A motion of sympathy was passed with Mrs E, Chatterton. Arrangements were made for the birthday partv to be held in conjunction with the rally in November. An invitation to the Templeton Women's Institute birthday party was received. A uarcel of books was handed in for the TeKiteroa rest home. Arrangements were made for a picnic at Ashley Gorge in November. The roll call was. “What 1 would like to be if I were a man.” The guest speaker. Mr Wattling, of Halswell, gave a very interesting talk on roses. Results of the monthly competitions were as follows:—large bloom, Mrs Langdale 1. Mrs C. Chatterton 2, Mrs E. Chatterton 3; cluster, Mrs Langdale 1 and 2, Mrs Watson 3; small bloom, Mrs C. Chatterton 1. Mrs E. Chatterton 2 and 3; peg bag. Mrs C. Chatterton 1; sponge roll, Mrs C. Chatterton 1; article from old felt hat, Mrs C. Chatterton 1: jar of raspberry jam, Mrs C. Chatterton 1, Mrs Read 2. Hostesses for the afternoon were Mrs J. Allison and Mrs G. Henderson. Cooper’s Creek. —Miss Lowe presided at the monthly meeting of the Cooper’s Creek branch of the Women’s Division of Federated Farmers. A demonstration of making sprays from discarded and dyed pylon stockings was given by Mrs Chapman. Competition results were as follows:—small posy bowl. Mrs Hill 1, Miss Bonisch 2, Mrs Lilly 3; one leek. Miss Bonisch 1, Mrs Bonisch 2, Miss Bonisch 3; two polyanthus, Mrs Taylor 1, Mrs Hill 2, Mrs Bowman and Mrs Taylor (equal) 3; six Elsie fingers, Mrs Clive 1. Miss Bonisch 2, Mrs Bowman 3. Diamond Harbour-Purau.—The September meeting of the Diamond HarbourPurau branch of the Women’s Division of Federated Farmers was held at. the home of Mrs Curtis, Diamond Hart our. The president (Mrs Pritchett) presided over a good attendance. The roll call, “A useful hint,” brought some helpful suggestions. A report from the recent executive meeting was read and discussed. Mrs Jekyll 3; miniature, Mrs Candy 1, Mrs Olliver 2, Mrs Hunter 3; biscuits, Mrs Olliver 1, Mrs Curtis 2, Mrs Jekyll 3; floral cup, Mrs Candy; cooking cup, Mrs Olliver. Spreydon.—Mrs W. (Connor presided at the monthly meeting of the Spreydon branch of the Women’s Division of Federated Farmers and welcomed a new member. A report was given on visits to patients in the Sunnyside Mental Hospital. The hostesses were Mrs S. Woods and Mrs C. Holstein. Competition results were as follows:—handkerchief made from salt bag, Mrs E. Crowe 1, Mrs A. Hall 2, Mrs Holstein 3; best bloom, Mrs E. Crowe 1, Mrs A. Broadlead 2, Mrs C. Holstein 3.
