NEW RECORD FOR 100 METRES

MARJORIE JACKSON * IN JAPAN (N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) (Rec. 7.30 p.m.) TOKYO, October 4. Marjorie Jackson broke the women’s 100 metres world record at Gifu, Central Japan, in 11.4 sec today. The Japanese Athletic Association said the record would be recognised internationally towards the end of the year. The previous world record, 11.5 sec, was held joint’y by Helen Stephens and Fanny Blankers Koen. Miss Jackson recorded 11.5 sec during the 1952 Olympic Games. Miss Jackson is making a 20-day tour of Japan.
