Cheju Island Incidents
(Rec, 8 p.m.) . PUSAN? September 2?. United Nations troops wounded four Chinese Communist prisoners in t z Wo minor disturbances at the prison camp on Cheju island oft South Korea yesterday. No United Nations meh were injured. The United Nations Prisoner of War Command said that in the first incident Chinese captives began to demonstrate while going to work atid refused to obey ofaefs. Two prisoners were ’ injured. When Chinese captives at another stockade refused to obey orders an Allied infantry platoon restored order immediately. Two prisoners were ifl* The senior Communist armistice delegate, General Nam 11, to-day protested against what he called allied “persecuting and butchering’’ of prisoners. He made the complaint in a letter to Lieutenant-General William Harrison, the chief United Nations negotiator. ' General Mark Clark announced in Tbkyo today that the United States Navy had formed “a sea defence zone” in South Korean waters and around the islands on which the Communist prisoners of war were held. He said the purpose was to eliminate infiltration by enemy agents. “Investigation of past incidents of violence on the part of terroristic Communist prisoners of war held in these islands hag shown conclusively that they wOfe instigated and abetted by enemy agents landed on the islands from small boats and carrying instructions from Communist headquarters in North Korea,” he said.
