ANZUS TREATY CONFERENCE

GENERAL GENTRY RETURNS

(New Zealand. Press Association) AUCKLAND, September 28. Major-General W. G. Gentry, Chief of the New Zealand General Staff, arrived at Whenuapai from Pearl Harbour by airliner tonight, after representing the Dominion at the first meeting of military representatives on the Anzus Council General Gentry declined to comment on the conference, which was attended by Admiral Arthur W. Radford, United States Naval Commander-in-Chief, Pacific, and Lieutenant-General S. G. Powell, the Australian Chief of Staff. He said he would report to the Minister of Defence (Mr T. L. Macdonald) and the Minister of External Affairs (Mr T. C. Webb). General Gentry said that, after the conference, which occupied three days of last week, an official press release had been issued. The reaction of journalists in Hawaii had been: “It’s a good hand-out —except that it teils us nothing.” Wing Commander I. F. Gill, Air Force Headquarters, Wellington, also returned from Pearl Harbour. He assisted General Gentry at the conference.
