FARMERS’ SUPPORT REQUESTED

CIRCULARS ALSO SENT TO SCHOOLS (New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, September 28. Forty-five thousand farmers throughout New Zealand have been asked by letters bearing the signature of the Dominion president of Federated Farmers (Mr John Andrew, of Hyde) to give to the United Nations Appeal for Children. Their response, according to the Dominion headquarters of the appeal in Wellington, has been “really good.” There many generous donations, the biggest so far being £2OO received a few days ago from a North Canterbury farmer. “The generous response of the men on the land has been most encouraging to. us,” said the national organiser of the appeal (Mr W. A. Breach) today. “Although it is not possible for us to reach other sections of the community by individual letters, we are confident the farmers will not be alone in their recognition of New Zealand’s duty to help the world s needy children.’’ Mr Breach said that the appeal was essentially a matter of individual giving, and urged that there should be no thought of “leaving it to the other fellow.” . , School children comprise the only other section of the community being circularised by the appeal organisers. Two hundred* thousand leaflets are being distributed to schools.
