NEW TOLL DIALLING SYSTEM
EQUIPMENT INSTALLED IN DUNEDIN
(New Zealand Press Association) « DUNEDIN, September 26. Tbe Post Office’s new “2VF” toll dialling system was brought into operation in Dunedin today. A Wellington toll operator is now able to dial a Dunedin number direct, without having first to speak to the Dunedin operator, and vice versa. The meaning of "2VF" is "two-voice frequencies”—of 600 and 750 cycles a second—whieh arc sent over the toll ll ne ' , One is UEe ° for control, and the other for sending dialling signals. When the operator dials, bursts of one or other, or both, frequencies, cause the correct signals to be received at the distant end, and the automatic exchange there causes the’ ?all to be routed to the correct numMuch work was involved in installing the equipment at Wellington.
