INVERCARGILL TRAM SERVICE
TRANSFER TO BUSES COMPLETED (New Zealand Press Association) INVERCARGILL, Sept. 10. Invercargill’s trams, after 40 years of service and almost 14,000,000 miles of travel, made their last official passenger runs this afternoon. Diesel buses will take over the only rematoing route* still operated by electric trams. The original vehicles are still running, although later models have been added to the fleet. Between three o’clock on March 26, •1912, and three o’clock this afternoon the trams covered 13,971,223 miles in Invercargill. The service officially ended this afternoon, but the trams were given a last farewell when three of them ran from the north Invercargill terminus to the depot at 7 o’clock tonight. Driving one of them was an inspector, Mr A. F. Waters, who was a conductor at the inception of the service.
