LANCE STOUT WINS N.Z. CHAMPIONSHIP

(New Zealand Press Association) INVERCARGILL, August 31. Lance Stout, the Wellington billiards champion, won the New Zealand amateur billiards championship in Invercargill last night. He beat E. V. Roberts, of Auckland, by 1231 points to 974. It is the second time Stout has won the title. He first won it in 1929, and for the last two years he had been runner-up to R. Carrick, of Auckland. Roberts, the runner-up this year, has won the title four times, and has been runner-up twice. In the final, Roberts challenged Stout strongly with big breaks. Roberts scored breaks of 98, 93, and 88. However, for consistency of cueing and brilliance in allround billiards. Stout was definitely superior. He scored 20 breaks of more than 40, 12 of more than 50. Stout won the best break trophy for a 149 in the semi-final against S. Moses, of Wellington. The southern snooker championship was finished on Saturday afternoon. The winner was C. Proctor, of Dunedin, who beat J. Proctor, of Bluff, in the final, by two frames to one. Scores were:—s7-56, 16-69, 46-38.
