N.Z. (CHAMPIONSHIPS DECIDED (New Zealand Press Association) PALMERSTON NORTH, Aug. 31. Without exception, the finals of the New Zealand badminton championships in Palmerston North on Saturday night were won easily in straight sets by the defending champions and top-seeded players. The closest game of the evening, although the score indicated a wider margin, was that between the women’s singles champion, Miss H. Redwood (Auckland) and the second seeded player, Mrs V. Gow (Auckland). Both players gave a brilliant exhibition. Miss Redwood won, 11-7, 12-10. J. E. Robson (Auckland) was also at peak form, and outclassed the secondseeded player in the men’s singles, A. L. Scott (Otago), to win, 15-3, 15-4. Miss Redwood, and Mrs Gow combined well to win the women’s doubles from Mesdames Hawkesworth and Potts (Wairarapa) in two straight sets, 15-9. 15-2. P. D. Skelt and A. D. Sfcelt failed to find good form in their doubles final against Robson and Scott, and lost, 15-2, 15-1. P. Hawksworth and Mrs Hawksworth lost, 14-7, 14-6, to P. D. Skelt and Miss R. Emslie in the final of the mixed doubles.
