Publication of Research

So great is the frustration in getting the results of scientific research published in New Zealand that the scientists are apt to wonder whether the research is worthwhile, says Professor V. J. Chapman, of the botany department at Auckland University College, in his annual report to the college council. “I have two monographs I am trying to get published, one on the green algae of New Zealand and one on the salt marshes of the world,” says Professor Chapman. “So far it has been impossible to find anyone who .will undertake publication within two years. The obstacle appears to be finance, which is inevitable in any major scientific work. If major long-term research is to continue I feel it is imperative that some means of publication of the results must be found.”
