NEARLY £30.000 TO BE SPENT ON REPAIRS (New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON. August 18. Nearly £30,000 is to be spent on alterations, renovations, and strengthening of Alexander Turnbull Library, Wellington. This was announced today by the Minister of Internal Affairs (Mr W. A. Bodkin) after the Cabinet had authorised the expenditure. “The present building, half of which was built for residential purposes, is dangerously overloaded.” said Mr Bodkin. “There is also a grave earthquake hazard. A complete survey and examination of the building was made by the Public Works Department and the report recommended strengthening, alterations, and renovations, involving an expenditure of £29.430."
