BAN ON DEREGISTERED WATERSIDERS

AUCKLAND UNION TO VOTE TO-DAY (New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, August 16. Auckland cargo workers will decide on Monday whether to lift last year’s ban on deregistered watersiders. The ban caused antagonism from other unions, though employers alone have the right to accept or reject men for wharf work. It was the main argument of Federation of Labour delegates who successfully opposed the Cargo Workers’ Union’s affiliation application. After representations by the combined waterfront organisation, the union executive has recommended that the resolution be rescinded. The bureau register and union membership are already full, with several names on- the waiting list. After they have been dealt with, it will be up to the employers to decide the fate of further applications.
